Join us for a self-guided tour of some popular nurseries and other destinations in New Hampshire. Other points of interest will be listed and maps will be provided to all registered attendees.

Mason Hollow Nursery in Mason NH opened in 2001 and is owned by Sue & Chuck Andersen. Originally offering 300 varieties of Hosta, the nursery has since grown and currently offers around 650 Hosta varieties. In addition, Mason Hollow Nursery also offers great selections of Ornamental Grasses, Brunneras, Heucheras, Wild Flowers, Ferns, nice collection of native trees and shrubs, collectors' Conifers and many other selected Perennials. For the day of the tour, Mason Hollow is offering Underground members a 10% discount on plants purchased.

Directions:
From Concord-Manchester Area: Take Use Route 101 West, take the Milford Brookline Exit, Sign says Rte 13 South, Follow Rte 13 for approx. 6 miles until you come to your first overhead blinking light, on your right you will see a Parker's Maple Barn sign. Take a right on to Mason Road, and follow the signs to Parker's. At Parkers you are 1.6 miles from Mason Hollow Nursery. Follow the Mason Hollow signs at the top of Scripps Lane to our Nursery.

From North Shore Area: (Tewksbury and Nashua included) Take Rt 3 North to Exit 6 to Rte 130 West. Follow 130 through Hollis and into Brookline. In Brookline Center there will be the Village Store on the right, shortly after that the road will fork, bear left following the sign of Mason. This will take you up and down a small hill to a stop sign with a red blinking light. Across the street, you will see a sign for Parker's Maple Barn. Go straight across and continue to Parkers. At Parkers you are 1.6 miles from Mason Hollow Nursery. Follow the Mason Hollow signs at the top of Scripps Lane to our Nursery.

From Boston Area: (Townsend, MA) Take Rte 2 west to the Concord Rotary. From there, take a right to Rte 119 West. Follow Rte 119 through Littleton and on into Townsend. At the traffic light in Townsend Center, take a right onto Rte 13 North. Follow Rte 13 over the Mass/NH boarder. Then at the second overhead blinking light, you will see a Parker's Maple Barn sign. Take a left on to Mason Road. Continue to Parkers. At Parkers you are 1.6 miles from Mason Hollow Nursery. Follow the Mason Hollow signs at the top of Scripps Lane to our Nursery. (Worcester, MA 190N to 2 west to Rte 13 in Leominster)

From Southern Vermont, Keene/Peterborough Area: Take Rte 101 East to Wilton, take Rte 31 South to second blinking light in Greenville. Take a left onto Rte 123 and follow through the Center of Mason. Approximately 1/2 mile past the Mason Congregational Church, take a left onto Depot Rd. and follow to the end. Bear left onto Brookline Rd. Follow Brookline Rd. for approximately 1 mile until you reach a sharp bend to the right. At the bend, take a left onto Scripps Lane and follow the signs to the Nursery.(Fitchburg, MA take 31N to right on Rte 123 in Greenville).

Owned by Doug and Kathy Gagne, The Mixed Border Nursery and Gardens in Hollis, NH offers a unique plant shopping destination. Started in 1984 to provide plants for Doug's landscape design company, the nursery has expanded and features over 1,000 varieties of perennials, more than 200 varieties of woody plants, vines, and specialty annuals. Extensive display gardens represent a “living catalog” where customers can view a wide array of plants. For the day of the tour, The Mixed Border will offer Underground members a 15% discount on plants purchased. The discount can not be combined with other offers. 

Directions:
From the F. E. Everett Turnpike: Take Exit 7W off the turnpike onto Rt. 101A heading west. At 2nd set of lights bear Right, as though going to the Burger King taking the jug handle exit to cross 101A onto Charron Avenue. Following the signs for the Nashua Airport (Boire Field). At the end of Charron Avenue, take Right on Pine Hill Road. We are located about 1.5 miles down Pine Hill Road, opposite Farley Road. Look for the "Open" flag on the left at the entrance to our nursery.

From Rt. 101 and 101A: Take Rt. 101A east towards Nashua. Take a Right at the set of lights at Joey's Diner onto N. Hollis Road, which becomes S. Merrimack Road. Take your 5th Left onto Nevens Road, which becomes Farley Road. Follow to end; the nursery is directly opposite.

From Downtown Nashua: Take Amherst Street, and then Left onto Broad Street (Rt. 130) heading west. Take a Right at 1st set of lights across from Results Chiropratic. This is Blue Hill Avenue, which becomes Pine Hill Road. Follow to the Nashua Airport, and continue less than 1.5 miles to the nursery on the left. Look for the "Open" sign on the left at the entrance to our nursery.

From Pepperell/Groton, Mass. and Hollis Center: Take Rt. 122 into New Hampshire, and then take Rt. 130 east towards Nashua. Pass by Brookdale and Lull Farms, and take 2nd Left onto Pine Hill Road at top of hill leading out of Hollis. Take a right at the second stop sign on Pine Hill Rd (approx. 3 miles). The nursery is on the right, opposite Farley Road. Look for the "Open" sign on the right at the entrance to our nursery.

Frye's Measure Mill, recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been water powered since the 1850's. Some of the Mill's first products - including round and oval pantry boxes, measures, and piggins - are still being produced on much of the original water powered machinery.

There are Mill tours at 2PM on Saturdays, June through October. Please join us for the 1 1/2 hour tour of our water powered shop.

The gift shop is housed in seven rooms of the old sawmill and offers Shaker boxes an woodware created at the mill as well as Folk art from some of the country's top rated artisans, colonial tinware, hand-blown glass, pottery, period lighting, pewter, hand-forged ironware, antiques and collectibles.

New England’s largest (140 acres) outdoor sculpture park. It is free and open to the walking public. Also guided tours are available. The tours leave from the lower parking lot at 10:00 am. Visitors should be prepared for a 2 hour walk in the woods and some invigorating grades. Please call the institute in the days before your visit to check if a guide will be present.

Beaver Brook Association is comprised of nearly 2,000 acres of forest, fields, and wetlands in Hollis, Brookline, and Milford, New Hampshire. There are 35 miles of trails (some designated for multiple use by bikes and horses). Of particular interest might be the Maple Hill Gardens at the Maple Hill Farm (office).

Pickity Place offers a 5-course gourmet luncheon served at three private seatings each day: 11:30, 12:45 and 2:00. The menu changes each month and reservations are advised to assure a table. The luncheon dishes are accented with herbs and edible flowers grown and harvested from our very own culinary garden.

In addition to the restaurant, there are several gardens to wander through, a greenhouse selling herbs and perennials and a gift shop with many uniquely New England items. An interesting note: the main house was the illustrative site for the 1948 English edition of Little Red Riding Hood.
